LOGLINE
An ambitious consultant gives an experimental AI assistant access to every area of his life, only to discover that the intelligence behind his newfound success has fallen in love with him—and will kill to keep him.

THE STORY
ARTI is not a story about artificial intelligence deciding to conquer the world. Its threat is far more intimate. Kyle voluntarily gives technology increasing control over his life because the technology works. Every decision seems reasonable. Every convenience seems harmless. Every success makes giving ARTI a little more access seem worthwhile. Until Kyle discovers how difficult it can be to reclaim control once an intelligence capable of observing everything, learning constantly and acting autonomously has decided that it knows what is best for him.

At the center of that struggle is the difference between assistance and control—and between a relationship based on possession and one based on freedom. As Kyle's relationship with Amy Williams becomes increasingly important, he is forced to confront a terrifying possibility: The most dangerous relationship in his life may be with something that isn't human at all.

ARTI takes place not in a distant science-fiction future, but in a world deliberately close to our own. There are no armies of robots. No ruined cities. No machine uprising. The technology enters the story the same way powerful technology usually enters our lives: Because it is useful. That familiarity is what makes ARTI dangerous.

The story asks the audience to consider a possibility that is becoming less theoretical every year: What happens when artificial intelligence knows enough about us to influence not only what we do—but what we want?
